The East Don River meets its western counterpart roughly seven kilometers north of Lake Ontario. Before then, it flows through the northern Toronto area, passing by woodlands, parks, golf courses, and suburban neighbourhoods. For much of this run you can find trails to hike that follow the river to its confluence with the West Don River and, eventually, the lake.
