It stands within a forest in the area between Geraci and Castelbuono, overlooking the deep Annunziata valley. Recovered in extremis after centuries of abandonment, the church was originally annexed to a Benedictine monastery, known through documentary evidence; the Norman conquest of Sicily.
On the north side of the church, a quadrangular space can be seen, which probably housed the cloister; it was connected to the church by a portal that opens above the presbytery and, as evidenced by the discovery of the bases of several twin columns, it must have had a portico.
