Lake Fimon, in the municipality of Arcugnano, is a very interesting ecosystem, nestled among the hills of the protected area of the Berici Hills. There are different types of fish such as pike, carp, tench, eel and others such as largemouth bass and bluegill. Rich in reeds, with a muddy bottom and shallow waters, it is full of water lilies that shine on the surface of the lake in spring. Many amphibians also live there, in particular the common toad which loves to breed in this area. When the newborns appear, volunteers from the SOS amphibious association of Vicenza prepare walkways in the area south of the lake to prevent pedestrians or bicycles from crushing the unborn babies. Also important from an archaeological point of view given that discoveries dating back to the Neolithic have been made. Worked flints of various types have been found: arrowheads, awls, short axes, and more such as vases and bowls. A boy of about twelve years old was also found at one of the sites, buried near some pottery.
Excellent starting point for excursions on foot or by bicycle but also simply for a walk around the lake in peace and tranquility. Frequented by fishermen and families for the classic trip out of town. There is a bar with an adjoining classroom, directly overlooking the lake, a farmhouse and other places where you can refresh yourself. Nearby there are also excellent and renowned restaurants that offer dishes prepared with local products such as truffles and olive oil, accompanied by fine wines. I frequent the lake in all seasons, I love bringing my dog who is always attentive and observes the various birds that come across such as ducks, cormorants and swans. Naturally, I often pass along the road that runs alongside it on my MTB or admire it from above when I run a little further up, over the hills.
