Eroded or perforated rocks, resembling animal carapaces, form strange caves. Locals call them tafoni (Corsican for windows) or cònchi (Sardinian for hollows, shells), which roughly describes these perforated stones.
These natural shelters were once used by shepherds for shelter and camp during storms or thunderstorms. These rock formations are unique in the entire Mediterranean.
