The first lighthouse on the headland Vanäs was built in 1864 on the northern part of Paviljongudden in Karlsborg. The fire was served by the bridge guard for the bridge over the Göta Canal at Rödesund. The lighthouse stands in Karlsborg on Lake Vättern, north of the fortress on the peninsula Vanäs udde, about 300 meters northeast of Vanäsverkan. It can be reached via a 25 m long boardwalk.
