The rule Sulzbürg-Pyrbaum was one of the few areas in Kurbayern in which Protestant Christians could live according to their creed. Two Protestant churches - Castle Church and Market Church -, the Catholic Church and finally the former Jewish cemetery still bear witness to the fact that even in the Bavarian era, subjects of different creeds could live together peacefully.

Sulzbürg is located on one of the witness mountains, which rise from the Neumarkter basin, northwest of the parish seat; The "Sulzbürger Massiv" is formed by the four peaks Schlossberg, Badberg (with a war memorial), Galgenberg and Schlüpfelberg (with a commemorative cross to the "Klösterlein Grab").

In the immediate vicinity burial mounds of the Bronze Age were made and found a ringwall installation of the Celtic cultural epoch.
