However, "sarkanjut" doesn't refer to that place; it comes from the word "kanjut," which in Sundanese means "place to store" or "place of storage." In the past, the area around this lake was used to store heirlooms, which were then "kanjuti" or given a storage place, hence the name Situ Sarkanjut.
