The Eisenhammer Dorfchemnitz is a historic hammer mill in Dorfchemnitz. The plant is an important testimony to proto-industrial development in the Ore Mountains. (Proto-industrialization refers to commercial production from the 15th to the 19th century, before industrialization, or to an era with little technical progress.)

eisenhammer-dorfchemnitz.deWelcome
The Eisenhammer Dorfchemnitz is one of the oldest craft enterprises in Saxony and beyond in Germany. The founding year is unknown, but already in 1365 the von Hartitzsch family got the right to operate the hammer. Originally set up for molten mineral, it was used in later years until the last century for iron processing, casting and forging. This hammer mill, which has been operated with hydropower until today, is thus a valuable testimony to the centuries-long mining in the Erzgebirge. With our rich stock of original tools we can draw an authentic picture of the life of the former blacksmith. In addition to the hammer mill, it is also worth taking a look at our Heimatstube and the chair factory with original machinery. Both objects are located on the hammer ground and can be visited during the opening hours.
