The statue of Chiyo honors Yamauchi Chiyo, the wife of the samurai Yamauchi Kazutoyo. It depicts Chiyo next to a horse she gave to her husband, a gesture that enabled his rise to power under Oda Nobunaga. The original bronze statue from 1913 was melted down during World War II; a replica was re-erected in 1996.
