    60m

Embark on the Muddy Hollow and Coast Trail Loop, a moderate hike spanning 5.2 miles (8.4 km) with an elevation gain of 220 feet (67 metres). You can expect to complete this scenic route in about 2 hours and 11 minutes. As you hike, you will traverse varied terrain, moving from wetlands and meadows into young Bishop pine woodlands, eventually reaching expansive views of the Pacific Ocean and Limantour Beach.

When planning your visit, be aware that the crossing of Muddy Hollow Creek does not have a bridge, so your feet might get wet, especially during the wetter months of winter and spring. Parking is available at the trailhead, making access straightforward. Remember that pets and bicycles are generally not allowed on the trails starting from the Muddy Hollow Trailhead.

This loop offers a rich tapestry of landscapes within Point Reyes National Seashore. Keep an eye out for diverse wildlife, including tule elk and various bird species, as you explore the natural features of this coastal area. The combination of inland and ocean vistas makes this trail a distinctive experience in the region.

Embark on a moderate hike along the Sculptured Beach via the Coast Trail, a 4.7-mile (7.6 km) route with an elevation gain of 217 feet (66 metres) that takes about 2 hours to complete. You will traverse open grasslands offering expansive ocean views before winding through peaceful pine forests. The journey culminates at Sculptured Beach, where you can admire impressive natural rock formations like arches and sea stacks carved by the relentless ocean.

Before you head out, check the tide charts carefully; exploring Sculptured Beach's unique rock formations and tide pools is best done at low tide. High tides can cover many of these features and potentially trap you, so plan your timing wisely. We recommend wearing sturdy, closed-toe shoes to navigate the uneven and rocky sections of the trail comfortably. This preparation ensures you can fully enjoy the coastal wonders without any unexpected surprises.

This trail offers a fantastic opportunity to witness diverse marine life in the vibrant tide pools at low tide. If you visit during winter and spring, keep an eye on the horizon for migrating whales, adding another layer of natural wonder to your coastal adventure. The unique geological features of Sculptured Beach make it a memorable destination within the Point Reyes National Seashore.
