Tips

  • Franzl wandert 🥾

The suspension bridge is an impressive structure that makes it a little easier to hike through the 1,000-step gorge. 😃

  • Great gorge between the Unterstell and Giggelberg cable car stations. If you want to escape the many day hikers, an excursion in the early morning hours is worthwhile. At sunrise the gorge has a very special atmosphere, the animal world (birds, snakes, mice) shows up and you can climb the steps in peace.

The path sounds more exhausting than it actually is. However, concentration is of course required, especially for the steep steps. You can strengthen yourself at the end and beginning at the Giggelberg and Pirchhof inns.

  • The highlight of this stage of the Meraner Höhenweg is the 1,000-step gorge with a 55-meter-long suspension bridge.
This section requires quite a bit of stamina in order to cope with the almost 1,000 stone, wooden and iron stairs.

  • Very nice hike with a great view. The 1000 steps are distributed on the hiking trail. Sometimes up, sometimes down. Mostly stone/rock steps, fewer actual stair steps. That's why there are different step heights, great leg training :) :) On the way there are always inviting alpine pastures.

  • Beware, the bridge is not for the faint of heart. There is also no getting around it.

  • Everything is right. One thing to complain about when you are fit is to manage the tour well, one cable car up and the other down again. Only at sunrise it doesn't work because the cable cars unfortunately don't open until 8 a.m. Not long ago the Texelbahn (Giggelberg) had a very early time one day a week.
If you already live upstairs. or if you are very fit, you will climb over 900 m and then start the hike.

  • It's super easy to cross, you shouldn't have a head for heights, you can swing here and there

  • We have already walked this gorge 2 times, but this suspension bridge didn't exist yet. It was about 4 years ago. At that time I was already 66 years old and coped well with them. As they say, if you are in condition, it can be done easily. Just back on vacation and there are so many wonderful hikes there.
