Passau (lat. Batavium, Batava or Passavia etc.) is an independent university town in the administrative district of Lower Bavaria in East Bavaria. It lies on the border with Austria and at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz and is therefore also called the "City of Three Rivers". With around 53,000 inhabitants, Passau is the second largest city in the administrative district after Landshut and is classified as a medium-sized city because of its population.
