A wonderful place of peace. After a strenuous hike in the heat, this was a real highlight. There were shady spots in the courtyard and you didn't want to leave. In the little shop there were all kinds of homemade things made by the nuns. I can recommend the chilled rice pudding. A dream.

Our first planned stop was the Holy Monastery of Panagiar Ipseni. As soon as we arrived, we sensed the special peace that surrounds this place. The monastery is currently nestled in a landscape of charred trees and shrubs. With its pine and olive trees, it must have looked truly beautiful here. Founded in the 19th century and dedicated to the veneration of the Virgin Mary, the monastery was spared the devastating 2023 forest fire that destroyed almost 1.5% of the island's southern area. Even during difficult times, the monastery remained an important spiritual retreat for the people of the region. Today, nuns once again live here, not only practicing monastic life but also creating an open house for visitors.

Due to restoration work being carried out on the church, it was unfortunately closed, so we had to limit our visit to the very well-maintained grounds, which have been lovingly restored. From the monastery, a winding Way of the Cross leads up a hill to the summit cross.
