The name Profitis Ilías (Greek for "Prophet Elijah") is ubiquitous in Greece. Since Prophet Elijah is associated with weather and mountains in the Orthodox tradition, the highest peaks of an island or region often bear this name.
From the summit, there is a panoramic view over the Gulf of Corinth and the mountainous landscape of the Peloponnese.
A small, whitewashed chapel stands here at the highest point. Its name day is traditionally celebrated on July 20th with festivities.
The region offers various paths. A well-known hiking trail starts in the nearby village of Kryoneri (Matsani).
