Many thanks to the Zeppenfeld Local History Society for this great work.
Excerpt from the Zeppenfeld Local History Society's website: "The Zeppenfeld Local History Society has been planning, preparing, and organizing for over a year – now it's finished: the new giant bench under the "Langes Holz" (Long Wood). At six meters wide and almost three meters high, it is unique in the Siegerland region. "The idea of building an oversized panoramic bench from local wood was a natural fit for us," explains project manager Steffen Marberg. "We already manage more than 50 benches around Zeppenfeld. It quickly became clear that this time it would be something special."

However, the implementation presented the society with a challenge: beams of the required length and thickness were not easy to obtain. "We spent a whole year looking for a sawmill or lumber dealer who could help us," reports senior bank manager Pascal Tilsner. Finally, the Diehl sawmill in Wahlbach agreed to supply the appropriate timber – cut from trees in the Burbach forest. The association was able to count on the support of the Jens Brücher gardening company for transporting the heavy beams and laying the foundation. The Dieter Klein company donated and installed the post supports. The actual construction was ultimately carried out by active members of the local history association. "Almost everyone here in town has some connection with the forest – be it through the coppice, the forest cooperatives, or simply taking a walk," explains bank manager Burkhard Hartmann. "So it's fitting that we at the local history association built a giant bench from local wood."

Even before the bench was built, the response from the village and the community was overwhelming. Numerous donations made it possible to cover the costs in full. Now the XXL bench under the "Langes Holz" is accessible via a short walk from the Eierecke in the south of Zeppenfeld – and offers a new view of the homeland.
