In this place, the Leszczynski family owned a mill, built by Gustavs Leszczynskis. It was the oldest mill in Rēzekne, built in 1858. In 1901, the first water turbine in Latgale was built in it.
At the end of the 1920s, a wooden bridge was built over the mill dam. The bridge was completed in 1927, its length was 19.8 m.
In old newspapers, we can read that in 1941 all the largest bridges in the city were blown up and the Leszczynskis bridge remained the only one that was in working order for some time. However, it was inconvenient for heavy traffic and was located far from the city center.
Unfortunately, nothing remains of the mill itself at present, only solid stone foundations and preserved fragments of cobblestone streets indicate that the old bridge once stood here.
