Silves Castle is an impressive medieval fortress in the Algarve, Portugal. It was originally built on an older settlement and later expanded by the Arabs between the 8th and 13th centuries. Thanks to its sturdy red sandstone walls and well-preserved structure, it is considered one of the best-preserved Moorish castles in Portugal. It has been designated a National Monument since 1910.

The former Cathedral of Silves (Portuguese: Sé Catedral de Silves), dedicated to the Conception of the Virgin Mary (Portuguese: Nossa Senhora da Conceição), was the episcopal church of the town of Silves from the 13th century until the transfer of the diocese of the Algarve in southern Portugal to Faro in 1577. The church is the oldest example of Gothic architecture in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, which was long occupied by the Arabs and Moors.
