    NRZ 02/2017:
RVR acquired land from the Federal Property Office

Nature has long since recovered the former military site. The Regionalverband Ruhr had acquired the 47.2 hectare plot of the former munitions depot Hünxe 2001 from the Federal Property Office. From about 1976 to 1999 militarily used plant lies between large forest areas about 5.5 kilometers from the Hünxer center. On the one hand, the areas have an excellent recreational and recreational function, but on the other hand, they also have great significance for the protection of biotopes and species.

The area with a lot of forest, streams, paved roads and above-ground bunkers is today an important habitat for a variety of rare animal and plant species. These include sand lizard, forest lizard, adder, newts, common toad, common frog, woodcock and barn owl. In addition, so far seven species of bats have been found, of which two species (brown long-eared and fringed bat) in a bats prepared for former bunker also winter.
