Not to be confused with the Baarstein, which lies between Heisterberg and Waldaubach
Edit 09/21: New sign notes that the Bartenstein was an active volcano about 6 million years ago.

The 617.6 m high Bartenstein, also popularly called Barstein, is a mountain in the Hohen Westerwald.
It is located in the midst of a dense pine forest, northwest of the village Gusternhain in the area of the community Breitscheid, directly on the high altitude trail between Gusternhain and Heisterberg.
The name Barstein comes from a legend that says that a long time ago a bard was chained to a rock on the barn and fed by the animals of the forest.
