The old town of Udine is unique – the cathedral, Piazza della Liberta, and the numerous green spaces are particularly worth seeing. The pink Loggia del Lionello (Palazzo Comunale), built in the finest Venetian late Gothic style, dates back to the mid-15th century.Above the Tempietto di San Giovanni, the two Moors on the Torre dell'Orologio strike the hours. Hercules and Cacus, known locally as "Florean and Venturino," stand next to the Statue of Liberty, a gift from Emperor Francis I on the occasion of the Peace Treaty of Campoformido. For a view of Udine from above, the most beautiful route from Piazza Libertà is through the Arco Bollani, a memorial arch designed by Andrea Palladio in the mid-16th century.
