A very interesting train station.

It is undoubtedly the symbol of the city, and the people of Limoges are proud of it! Limoges-Bénédictins station is regularly listed among the most beautiful train stations in France, Europe, and even the world, and has also been the setting for films and commercials.

This station, built between 1924 and 1929, is an example of monumental aesthetics combining Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Neoclassicism. Designed by architect Roger Gonthier, the station replaced the first station, opened in 1860, which had become too cramped. It is made of reinforced concrete and boasts a remarkable height. The interior and exterior decoration, carved in limestone, is the work of the sculptor Henri Frédéric Varennes. Notable elements include two imposing statues symbolizing porcelain and enamel, thus underscoring the city's role as a capital of fire arts.
