Peace Hill

The ruins at Peace Hill are the remnants of an old sugar mill, originally a windmill used for sugar production at the nearby Denis Bay Plantation. Established in 1718, this plantation was one of the few on St. John to utilize wind power, highlighting its connection to the island's past of slavery and sugar cane cultivation.

The 'Christ of the Caribbean' statue, erected in 1953 by Colonel Julius Wadsworth, served as a navigational aid for ships for many years. Unfortunately, it was toppled by Hurricane Marilyn in 1995 and was never rebuilt. Remnants of the statue can still be seen near a tree at the center of Peace Hill.

While Peace Hill is part of the Virgin Islands National Park, the park generally has specific regulations regarding pets.
