The beach is a narrow strip 450 meters long made of small pebbles of all sorts of colors. Situated under a cliff over 150 meters high, it is distinguished by clean water and picturesque landscapes.
The ancient volcano Fiolent, which was active here 150 million years ago, has been significantly destroyed by the sea, and on top it is covered with limestone interspersed with minerals (jasper, carnelian, chalcedony and others), thanks to which the beach got its name.
The foot of the St. George Rock is also located near the Jasper Beach. Above the beach on the monastery cape is the St. George Monastery and the ruins of Admiral Lazarev's house. To the beach from the monastery at the end of the 19th century, on the monastery's centenary, a staircase of 814 steps was built. Once the Jasper Beach was part of the monastery territory and belonged to the monastic brotherhood. The monks went up and down to the beach with prayer. Therefore, the road to the beach is blessed by the efforts of monks. At the moment, the stairs to the beach are open to everyone from 7:00 to 23:00.
