According to German chronicles from the 19th century, the last wolf in Międzyrzecz County was shot on July 18, 1852. This wolf likely migrated from southwestern Greater Poland. The Basior was causing significant damage to livestock in nearby villages. Hunters organized a hunt for it and hunted it in the Bukowiecki Forest. Grateful residents erected a 3-meter-high obelisk at this spot, to which they attached a plaque with the commemorative inscription:
