Cycling here is breathtaking: this bridge over Skeiðarársandur is no ordinary crossing. In 1996, a brutal glacial flood (jökulhlaup) swept away the old bridge and sent steel beams tumbling like toothpicks. Today, riding over it, you cross an open, lunar landscape, with Vatnajökull watching over you in the background. Tip: Take a break halfway through, feel the wind, and remember that nature rules here.
