02.08.2017 - Beautiful view and interesting remains of the wall, the condition of the castle is rather bad.

The castle ruin was built on a rock spur, which drops approximately 100 m vertically to the west and southwest. The castle ruin Schrattenstein lies in the southern Alpine foreland, in the municipality Schrattenbach, Lower Austria.

The ruin Schrattenstein was a small castle, in the middle of the forest. Schratt means goblin or forest spirit. And that's exactly how it looks here. A wonderful place with the best view of the opposite Hohe Wand.

Currently (Sept.2018) Part of the way hampered by Baumschlägerungen. The last part of the descent from the castle ruins to Greith is plowed up by the harvester.
