Pursiala pothole is a 8-metre deep natural feature, specifically a giant’s kettle (Hiidenkirnu in Finnish) formed by glacial meltwater.

Discovered in 1965, the site was only just spared from development, as the outcrop was being blasted for construction use. It is nowadays protected and one of the Saimaa Geopark sites.

Otherwise a great sight, the setting adjacent to industrial area is not the nicest possible. There is a small parking lot close to the pothole. Alternatively, a hike here can be combined with other nearby sights like Kaihu Esker and Mikkelinpuisto park.
