The Laganrun biotope is part of a larger wetland system located on the ridge separating the Cembra Valley from the Adige Valley. It is a characteristic feature of the landscape as well as being of considerable scientific and naturalistic importance.
There was once a lake here, which gradually became marshy and then slowly transformed into a peat bog.
Now, this peat bog is home to numerous rare species, including a water beetle, discovered here for the first time, which has been named Agabus lagabrunensis to emphasize the importance of this site.
