The coastline around Mikoszewo changes from year to year. Following the extension of the eastern breakwater protecting the mouth of the Vistula River, a sandbar has grown, separating the beach at Mikoszewo from the sea. Numerous waterbirds flock there, easily visible through binoculars.
From the Mikoszewo side, the beach is also expanding. New areas of land can be identified by the coarse sand that sinks your feet into. A small peninsula has formed towards the sea.

We went to check if the lengthening sandbar had closed the bay located between the beach in Mokoszewo (entrance 90) and the breakwater protecting the Vistula estuary. It hasn't closed yet. If it does close, beachgoers shouldn't rejoice about the beach lengthening all the way to the breakwater. The reserve warden predicts that the sandbar will be fenced off from the beach and that access will subsequently be prohibited due to the expanding nature reserve.
