The first Catholic church in Alanta was built around 1504. From 1581 until the mid-17th century, it belonged to the Evangelical Reformed Church. In 1903, the project for a new brick church, prepared by the Swedish architect Karl Eduard Strandmann, was approved. The church is built in the Neo-Romanesque style and is shaped like a Latin cross. It is a hall church with a semicircular apse. Its facade features two 51-meter-high towers. The church has three naves. The church square is surrounded by a stone fence.
