On the 50th anniversary of the tragic accident off the coast of Santo André, which occurred on January 9, 1963, in which 17 fishermen lost their lives, the Santo André Parish Council, with the support of the Santiago do Cacém City Council, honored these men by erecting a memorial at that location in 2013.
