The National Bank of Albania was established on the basis of the Convention of March 15, 1925, and opened its offices on November 29, 1925. It was temporarily housed in a smaller building, approximately 100 meters west of its current location. It was relocated there in mid-1928 and inaugurated on November 9, 1928.
Its foundations are located on the southeastern tower of the Byzantine circle, the so-called "Great Bastion." The building was designed by Italian architects and constructed by the Durrassak Masters. Compositionally, it is a work of Baroque style, used for the first time in Albania. A human sculpture (woman) stands on the bank's building, symbolizing war, resistance, and victory over the centuries, as well as the country's prosperity.
