Its name comes from the fact that it stood near large seawater settling tanks, used for salt extraction. The Baroque interior is the result of an 18th-century renovation. The central niche features a dazzling modern reproduction of the painting venerated in the Sanctuary of Montallegro, built where the Madonna appeared to a farmer in 1557.
