The porch is open, from here there is a beautiful view into the church.

The Nicolaaskerk (St. Nicholas Church) is the third church at its current location at Dorpsstraat 24 in the old town center of Zoetermeer. After the use of a clandestine church on Voorweg, two plots of land were purchased there after the Batavian Republic, and the first parish church was built. This quickly deteriorated to such an extent that a completely new church was needed by 1857. This church eventually proved too small, and on March 17, 1915, the foundation stone for the current one was laid. In 1916, the church was consecrated by Bishop Augustinus Callier of Haarlem. The current Nicolaaskerk is a national monument.

It is a cruciform church in a combination of the Neo-Gothic and Neo-Romanesque styles, built of grayish-red brick, with transepts and a semicircular apse. Adjacent to this apse are two smaller semicircular apses, in which, on the left, as seen from the main entrance, a side altar for Mary and on the right for Joseph was built. The architect was Jan Stuyt of Amsterdam. His "trademark" can be found under the eaves of the rear apse: a black-and-white checkered frieze. The interior, wall surfaces, and pillars, as well as the vault, were painted by Frans Loots and Theo van der Lee.
