"Schwedenlöcher" (Swedish Holes) is the name given to a romantic yet adventurous gorge between the Bastei massif and the Amselgrund valley near Rathen. The hiking trail leads you through gorge-like rocky alleys, over approximately 700 steps and two steep iron ladders, through a unique rocky landscape. The Schwedenlöcher got their name during the Thirty Years' War, when the inhabitants of neighboring villages hid here with their belongings from the Swedes.
