The evocative and mysterious atmosphere surrounding Lake Accesa is a source of ancient legends, passed down orally from father to son.

The history of the lake is closely linked to that of the Etruscans, who settled here as early as the 6th century BC, where they discovered important mineral deposits for metal production in the surrounding areas.

The Etruscan industrial district developed in the hilly area near the lake, where today, a natural park, some tombs and remains of urban neighborhoods are visible.

Industrial activity continued in the following centuries, from the Roman period until the 18th century.

The area of the Accesa Lake Archaeological Park was first excavated around 1930, and then from 1980 to the 2000s by Camporeale. Numerous settlements document a long historical period from the 9th to the 6th century BC.

Given its location, the settlement saw the emergence of a veritable network of small villages, several hundred meters apart, arranged along the lakeshore. A necropolis was also discovered.
