The Easter Chapel at Herzogenburg Abbey was consecrated in 1999 and forms a modern, deliberately simple contrast to the baroque splendor of the rest of the monastery complex. It serves as a place of silence, personal prayer, and inner contemplation—especially for pilgrims, as the Way of St. James passes directly by the abbey. At the center of the chapel is a symbol of the Holy Sepulchre embedded in the wall, with a simple walnut altar. Next to it is a glass ambo in which the eternal light burns, a symbol of the presence of the risen Christ.
