Lithuanian Gliders Valley
In 1942-1957 the main and one of the first Lithuanian gliding bases was operating in this place. Famous Lithuanian gliding pioneers and professional athletes - Bronius Oškinis, Alfredas Gysas, Vladas Strazdas, Vytautas Peseckas and others - glided here and worked as instructors, teachers, also constructed the first gliders (Br, M). Engineer J. Balčiūnas was the first man in Lithuania who used a mechanical system to elevate the gliders to the height of 300 to 400 meters. A number of National records has been set here as well.
Activities of the Lithuanian Gliders Valley ensured the continuous improvement of Lithuanian aviators, the subsequent growth of versatile sports aviation (airplanes, parachutes, airplanes, paragliders, engineering and construction of sports gliders) and the survival of Lithuania as an aviation country. The wings of Lithuanian gliders matured and strengthened in this place. Ideas of the free country were born and lingered in the beautiful Lithuanian Gliders Valley.
