Burg Nordeck towers high above the Lumda Valley, a good kilometer linear distance from the river. The very well-preserved hill castle with a moat, round keep and shield wall dates from the 12th century.
The Romanesque castle complex of Burg Nordeck is surrounded by a number of buildings from the 14th to 17th centuries. A castle chapel also belongs to Burg Nordeck. The castle chapel stands in the outer bailey near the inner fortress wall. Inside there is an old Romanesque vault that spans the choir, and an interesting fresco that depicts a red-brown devil's head.
