The Battle of Blackstock Historic Site sits on the quiet hillsides where Patriot General Thomas Sumter faced off against British commander Banastre Tarleton in a hard-fought Revolutionary War victory. While the original log house and farm buildings are long gone, the battlefield’s natural features remain much as they were in 1780. You can walk across the sloping 50-acre pasture where American militia took cover and fired from behind fences and outbuildings, and trace the gentle descent to the stream that once bordered the fighting. A granite monument stands at the site, offering background on the battle and its role in turning the tide of the war in the South.
