Salakas town Tatar cemetery. A stone fence separates the old cemetery from the Tatar cemetery in Salakas. There is no data on when the Salakas Tatar cemetery was founded. The surviving stone tombstones testify to the first burials in the 1930s. The cemetery is still operating today. The last burial was in 2019. The deceased are buried there even from other cities. There are 59 or 60 burials in total in the cemetery. This is the only Tatar cemetery in Aukštaitija. The monuments in the Salakas Tatar cemetery have inscriptions in Polish, Russian, Lithuanian, and Arabic. The inscriptions contain information about the age, marital status, and official duties of the Tatars buried here. In addition, the name and surname of the deceased are engraved. Verses from the Quran are found on several monuments. The Salak Tatar cemetery has a pair of monuments with the Arabic inscription: "La ilaha illallahu Muhammadu rasulullah" ("There is none worthy of worship except God and Muhammad, who is His messenger"). This statement reflects the basis of the Tatar faith.
