A great ruin, the Löwenburg, with a gigantic view of Monreal, twice the most beautiful place in Rhineland-Palatinate. A real experience.

The castle was built by Count Hermann III. Built by Virneburg in 1229. However, it was only built after Philippsburg (which was also built in the 13th century). The basis was that Count Hermann was the first born to go on crusades from Virneburg. So Count Philipp built his castle during this time. After Hermann's return, a dispute broke out between the brothers and he built the Löwenburg on Philipp's property. The dispute has been going on for a long time and was ended by a settlement.
The keep, which is still 25 meters high today, was originally provided with a roof and was 15 meters higher.
But today you still have a fantastic view of one of the most beautiful places in Rhineland-Palatinate from the castle and the keep.
