Origin: It is what remains of the ancient Lake of Bientina (or Sesto), which was once the largest lake in Tuscany before the imposing land reclamations of the 19th century desired by Grand Duke Leopold II of Lorraine.
Surface: It extends for about 30 hectares in a wetland of great ecological value.
