The shaping power of glacial meltwater from the area of present-day Lake Plön formed the landscape between Rickling and Daldorf.
The westward-flowing water deposited sand and carved out the "Trappenkamp Sander."
The present-day watershed between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea runs right through here: the Brandsau River flows toward the Baltic Sea, while the Rothenmühlenau River drains into the North Sea via the Stör River.
