🐸 Brief profile of the moor frog:
Size: 5–6 cm, females slightly larger, brown in color – but during spawning season, the males turn bright sky blue!
It prefers moist meadows, moors, marsh forests, and shallow pools, especially sunny, fish-free shallow waters for spawning in early spring.
The tree frog is very sensitive to water loss, bush encroachment, and road traffic. Its call is a deep, gurgling sound – almost like a quiet water pump.
Conservation status: Critically endangered – Specially protected species under the Habitats Directive (FFH).
