Rennerod Station – from the rails to memory, but not forgotten.

Where passenger trains once puffed and freight cars rumbled, shunting locomotives, flatbed trucks, and handcars now stand ready. A railway association passionately keeps the memory alive. The old tracks haven't completely fallen silent – the wheels of the handcars still clatter from time to time, and the chainsaw choir sings when club members once again clear the line toward Westerburg of overgrowth. The station building lives on, and with it a piece of Westerwald railway history.

Rennerod Station was put into operation in 1906 with the opening of the Westerwaldquerbahn (Westerwald Transverse Railway) between Montabaur, Westerburg, Rennerod, and Herborn. It was one of the most important stations on this route, which brought a continuous east-west connection to the Westerwald for the first time.
