The large thatched shelter offers several people protection from the rain and is also a good resting place with great views of the lake.
The Segeberg Beautification Association had this shelter built for spa guests in 1905. It is popularly known as the "Negro Hut". Here the lake is at its narrowest point at 260 m. Opposite is the Spitzenort peninsula. The journey through the waist of the lake is always a challenge for sailors.
When the wind is mostly from the west, the sailing boats get a lot of speed just off Spitzenort.
The water is very shallow there, however.
