The Remagen Bridge was built between 1916 and 1918 during World War I and named after General Ludendorff. It was destroyed at the end of World War II in 1945.

Today, a memorial and a peace museum are located in the southern abutment. The Ludendorff Bridge became world famous in 1969 through the US war film "The Bridge at Remagen."
