Jerzy Różycki was a famous Polish cryptologist who contributed to the deciphering of the Enigma code. The mathematician came from the Eastern Borderlands. In 1918, he and his family fled the territories of the former Russian Empire, which were engulfed by revolution, to the Republic of Poland, which had been reborn after the partitions. The family eventually ended up in Kraszewice, where his father Zygmunt Różycki ran a pharmacy. He received his higher education in Poznań, where, due to his incredible knowledge and skills, he joined a mathematics club, and then a secret group that deciphered the code of the German Enigma encryption machine.
