New cycle/pedestrian path that connects Anfo to Ponte Caffaro and then to the cycle paths towards Storo and Trentino. Finally it is possible to avoid the busy road of Lake Idro. Beautiful and very suggestive route. Be careful of the dirt road, for racing bikes definitely at the limit, I would say not recommended due to the gravel too big in some places

    Frequently Asked Questions

What type of bicycle is best suited for the Lakeside Cycle and Pedestrian Path?

The path is largely unpaved and features sections with larger gravel. For this reason, gravel bikes or mountain bikes are ideally suited for the terrain. While it's possible to ride with other bikes, road bikes might find the surface challenging due to the gravel.

Is the path suitable for families with young children or beginner cyclists?

Yes, the path is generally considered easy to moderate, making it a great option for families and beginner cyclists. Its relatively flat profile, with only minor inclines, ensures an enjoyable experience for most. The route offers a safe environment away from car traffic, which is ideal for children.

Are there any specific points of interest or landmarks along the route?

Absolutely! A significant highlight is the path's passage directly beneath the impressive Rocca d'Anfo, a historic fortified military complex dating back to the fifteenth century. This fortress provides a striking historical backdrop to the natural landscape. You'll also enjoy continuous panoramic views of Lake Idro and the surrounding mountains.

Where can I find parking near the Anfo or Ponte Caffaro trailheads?

Parking is available in both Anfo and Ponte Caffaro. However, especially during peak season or on weekends, parking spaces can fill up quickly. It's often recommended to arrive earlier in the day to secure a spot, particularly if you plan to start your journey from Anfo.

How crowded does the Lakeside Cycle and Pedestrian Path get, especially on weekends?

As a popular and scenic route, the path can experience higher visitor numbers, particularly on weekends and during the warmer months. While it offers ample space, you might encounter more cyclists and walkers during these times. For a quieter experience, consider visiting on weekdays or earlier in the morning.

Are there options for food, drinks, or accommodation near the path?

Yes, both Anfo and Ponte Caffaro, the towns at either end of the path, offer amenities. You'll find bars in both locations where you can get refreshments. For more extensive dining options or accommodation, you'll find various restaurants and hotels in Anfo, Ponte Caffaro, and other nearby towns around Lake Idro.

Is the Lakeside Cycle and Pedestrian Path accessible for wheelchairs or strollers?

Given that the path is largely unpaved with sections of larger gravel, it might present challenges for standard wheelchairs or strollers. While it's generally flat, the uneven surface could make it difficult for smooth passage. All-terrain strollers or robust wheelchairs might be more suitable, but accessibility can vary depending on specific equipment.

Can I bring my dog on the Lakeside Cycle and Pedestrian Path?

Generally, dogs are welcome on pedestrian and cycle paths in Italy, provided they are kept on a leash and owners clean up after them. Given the path's natural setting and family-friendly nature, it's a suitable place to bring your dog, allowing them to enjoy the lakeside environment with you.

What are the winter conditions like on the path, and is it still accessible?

While the path is beautiful in warmer months, winter conditions can vary. Lake Idro typically experiences colder temperatures, and there might be ice or snow on the unpaved sections, especially after heavy snowfall. It's advisable to check local weather forecasts and trail conditions before planning a winter visit, as some sections might become less accessible or slippery.

Are there any opportunities for wild swimming near the path?

Lake Idro offers various spots for swimming. While the path itself runs along the shore, you'll find designated beaches and access points for swimming in Anfo and Ponte Caffaro, as well as other locations around the lake. Always be mindful of local regulations and safety guidelines when swimming in natural waters.

Does the path connect to other cycling routes for longer excursions?

Yes, the Lakeside Cycle and Pedestrian Path is part of a larger vision to enhance cycling tourism in the region. It connects towards cycle paths leading to Storo and Trentino, and is the initial phase of a project to create a continuous loop around Lake Idro. This allows cyclists to extend their rides and explore more of the surrounding area, including connections like the Ciclovia dei Fiori towards the Brenta Dolomites.
